One of the context clues I used is the word favorite which describes something Peter's little brother Fudge likes to do. Another context clue I used is the phrase "banging pots and pans together" which is the thing he likes to do. So the meaning of the word pastime I came up with is something that somebody likes to do and the meaning of the word pastime in the dictionary is something that serves to make time pass agreeably, so my hypothesis was mostly correct.

Mr. and Mrs. Hatcher could have tried to get Fudge to eat by waiting until he gets hungry and then he might eat. They could bribe Fudge, and Mrs. Hatcher can say we will let you chose a pair of socks. Another way Mrs. Hatcher can make Fudge eat from putting flowers in his food and then he might eat his food.
